Since we have SO MUCH free time during ‘nap time’ and after the kids go to bed, we have to make a little pocket change off our blog posts occasionally…to afford lip gloss, wine, and boots=)  This post is a sponsored post brought to you by SocialMoms and Happy Family.  (We actually had this blog post written BEFORE we found out about the sponsorship opportunity!)

I wrote about food allergies earlier in this series and I briefly mentioned that my son (9 months old) has a dairy allergy. Let me be clear about one thing- although the sentence I wrote in that post was a very casual statement, this is not just some minor detail of my life. I am nursing and have to be completely dairy free myself. My ranch dipping, cheese covered, ice cream eating life is OOOOOOVEEEER. There is soy milk in my refrigerator and some kind of vegetable disguised as an $8 block of mozzarella “cheese” that isn’t edible after 7 days. I opened it 3 weeks ago and can not throw it away…did I mention it was $8?!
I’ve tried to be so chill about introducing solids to my little guy. He doesn’t know what he’s missing but obviously mommy does. It helps that I cannot have dairy and if mommy cannot have it, I’m not cooking it. Only my daughter gets the pleasure of cheese in this house in the form of “string cheese” or “cheese toasties” (grilled cheese for those of you that aren’t from Decatur, IL). Offering my son what I’m eating is going well, but I get so upset when I cruise through the baby food aisle at the grocery store only to find milk in basically anything that my daughter ate at that age.
I thought I was so relaxed about this solids thing until I was cruising the baby food aisle at Target one day and came across happycreamies:
After reading the package 100 times to check and double check that there was no dairy in it, I got teary eye. Right there in the middle of Target I chocked up over a package of baby snacks. I didn’t realize how stressed I had been about this crazy dairy free stuff. Yogurt puffs where my daughter’s very favorite snack at his age and I hated that I couldn’t buy them for him.
After the gates of Heaven closed and the angels stopped singing (and checking the label ooooone more time) I grabbed 3 packs and threw them in my basket. SCORE!! I’m realizing things are a lot different then when my daughter was a baby. There are so many more healthy and organic options for babies now. And it seems like companies have really caught on to kids with allergies and are offering more dairy/gluten/soy free options. It sure makes him happy-

Turns out Happy Family offers a ton of great food options for babies- my
son now loves their green puffs and we’ve done some of their baby food
pouches as well. They even have rice cakes and regular yogurt puffs for
all of you out there with “normal” babies. ;o) You can check out a list of where to buy their products and click here for a $.50 off coupon!
So show Happy Family some love by liking their FaceBook page and consider submitting your “Funny Feeding Story” for a chance to win $20,000 towards college.
Are there any foods that you’ve stumbled across that made you want to do a happy dance? Tell us about it (especially if they are dairy free, I’m running out of ideas!!!!!).
